Research Line
The LCII operates since 1975 in various lines of research, all focused on the development and application of techniques of integrated pest management, including:
Survey of pest species and their natural enemies, especially in crops like soybeans, corn, wheat, rice and vegetables and also in small crops;
Development of techniques for mass rearing natural enemies for inoculative releases.
Tests with environmental variables (temperature, humidity) to assess the development of pests and natural enemies.
Tests with plant extracts (bioextracts) gross and isolated as an alternative for pest control and selectivity to natural enemies.
Studies of the biology and behavior of pests and natural enemies.
Evaluation of the toxic effects of chemical insecticides to pests and natural enemies.
Evaluation of quarantine pests introduced.
Development and testing of traps for monitoring insects.
