Research Line

The LCII operates since 1975 in various lines of research, all focused on the development and application of techniques of integrated pest management, including:

• Survey of pest species and their natural enemies, especially in crops like soybeans, corn, wheat, rice and vegetables and also in small crops;

• Development of techniques for mass rearing natural enemies for inoculative releases.

• Tests with environmental variables (temperature, humidity) to assess the development of pests and natural enemies.

• Tests with plant extracts (bioextracts) gross and isolated as an alternative for pest control and selectivity to natural enemies.

• Studies of the biology and behavior of pests and natural enemies.

• Evaluation of the toxic effects of chemical insecticides to pests and natural enemies.

• Evaluation of quarantine pests introduced.

• Development and testing of traps for monitoring insects.
